Daniel 7

Here's an overview of Daniel 7 parallelling it with Daniel 2.

Remember the head represents Babylon. Archeologists have found carvings of lions with wings in Babylonian sites.

Medo-Persia was composed of the Medes and the Persians. Here the chest has two arms and the bear leans on one side first then the other.1 The bear has three ribs in it's mouth which indicates that it has overthrown three nations. History tells us that, when arising, the Medo-Persian empire overthrew three kingdoms.

The thigh represents the Greek empire as does the leopard with 4 heads and 4 wings.2 The significance of the 4 heads is that, after Alexander the Great, the Greek empire was divided up into 4 portions. Daniel chapter 8 discusses this more specifically as will we. The 4 wings represents the speed at which Greece overthrew other kingdoms...more about this later.

The legs and terrible beast represent the Roman empire and have iron in common. The legs are of iron and the beast has iron teeth. Please notice that there is some continuity between this level and the next.

The iron continues from the legs into the feet with its 10 toes. The beast has 10 horns. This represents the break-up of the Roman empire into the 10 tribal countries that eventually became present Europe.

Kingdom succeeds kindgom and Daniel tells us that God will set up a kingdom after Rome had broken up into Europe.3
