- Jacob & Esau -
This story is about God's promise to Esau that he would inherit the birthright despite the fact that he was the younger brother. Jacob tries to accomplish God's promise through deceit and finds himself in crisis instead. After wandering in Midian for a number of years, God brings Jacob to the point of mortal danger. Only after Jacob realizes that he has been fighting against God does he experience repentence. At this point God can use him to fulfill His promise.
Jacob's life story is the best illustration of what God is trying to accomplish in the Great Controversy through His Church. God has promised us that we will be restored back into the family of God. But until we are brought to the point of complete repentence, we continue to delay His ability to fulfill His promise. But the good news is that Christ will succeed in winning the heart of His bride.
